Terms of Service

1. Who we are and what these terms cover

FAMNET Schools ("the Service") is a web-based school management system operated by Famnet Services Limited ("FAMNET", "we"), New Bagamoyo Road, Victoria House, 3rd Floor, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. These Terms apply to every school, staff member, parent and visitor who uses schools.famnet.co.tz, the FAMNET Staff app, and related messaging services.

2. Accounts and roles

  • A school account is created by a person authorised by the school (the "Admin"). The school is responsible for the accuracy of what it registers and for everyone it gives access to.
  • Staff accounts are created by the school; each user must keep their password confidential and change the initial password at first login.
  • Parent access uses the student registration number and the student's registered name. Schools must give these only to the child's parent or guardian.
  • You must not share credentials, access another school's data, or use automated tools to scrape the Service.

3. The school's data

The school is the controller/owner of the personal data it enters (students, parents' phone numbers, staff records, marks and payments). FAMNET processes that data only to provide the Service, as described in the Privacy Policy. The school warrants that it has the right to enter and process this data, including parents' phone numbers for messaging. Schools can export their data to Excel at any time and can request deletion of their account.

4. Fees and payments to FAMNET

  • The Service is provided under one of two models, chosen by the school in Admin Settings: (a) parents' contribution — each parent pays TZS 3,500 per student per academic year to open results in the parent portal; or (b) a school system fee per term or per year, payable by mobile money and confirmed with the transaction ID.
  • Optional add-ons: SMS credit (TZS 35 per SMS, minimum purchase TZS 20,000 + VAT) and a school's own WhatsApp sending number (TZS 10,000 per month).
  • Prices are shown on the Pricing page and inside the Service and may change with 30 days' notice. Contributions and system fees are non-refundable once results have been made available.
  • Under model (a), if fewer than 70% of students' contributions are paid within six months of registration, FAMNET may require the school to move to model (b) or may suspend the school's account after notice.

5. School fees paid by parents through the Service

The "Lipa Ada" feature lets parents pay the school's fees through licensed payment partners (ClickPesa). These payments are between the parent and the school; FAMNET is not the recipient, does not hold the money and is not party to any dispute about school fees. Gateway charges of the mobile network or bank apply. Receipts issued by the Service are the school's receipts.

6. Messaging

Schools use the Service to send SMS and WhatsApp messages to parents and staff. The school is responsible for the content of its messages and for having a lawful basis to contact each recipient. FAMNET may rate-limit or block messaging that is unsolicited, unlawful or abusive.

7. Acceptable use

You must not: enter false results or payment records; attempt to gain unauthorised access; upload malicious files; use the Service to harass anyone; or resell the Service without a written agreement. We may suspend accounts that breach these Terms.

8. Availability and support

We aim for continuous availability but do not guarantee it; maintenance and outages can occur. Data is backed up daily. Support is provided through the Help Centre, WhatsApp and email during working hours.

9. Intellectual property

The Service, its software, design and documentation belong to FAMNET. The school retains all rights to its own data and report content. FAMNET may display the school's name and logo within the school's own pages and reports only.

10. Liability

The Service is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by the laws of Tanzania, FAMNET is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and its total liability for any claim is limited to the fees paid by the school to FAMNET in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing limits liability for fraud or wilful misconduct.

10a. The FAMNET Schools app

The app is offered free with optional Premium (billed by Google Play, renews monthly until cancelled in Google Play). Learner accounts are for students; a learner under 18 should use the app with a parent's or guardian's knowledge. Automatically generated lessons and tutor answers are marked as drafts until reviewed by a teacher and may contain mistakes; they do not replace the school's teaching or official NECTA materials. You may delete your app account at any time in Settings or at https://schools.famnet.co.tz/delete-account.

11. Termination

A school may stop using the Service at any time and request export or deletion of its data. FAMNET may terminate or suspend for breach, non-payment after notice, or if required by law.

12. Changes, law and contact

We may update these Terms; the effective date at the top changes when we do, and material changes are announced in the Service. These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania. Questions: [email protected].
